"The 'Leading Change in Policing Conference and Exhibition' organised by Brintex and supported by ACPO, provides a critical opportunity to discuss the difficult choices and decisions that must be made with the professional leaders of the Service at this challenging time for policing. It is clear that the Coalition Government's police reform programme and the immense financial constraints that policing is facing amount to substantial change. Managing such change is never easy, while retaining a clear focus on the public we serve is vital.

"The Conference Programme includes sessions led by the most senior figures in policing on many of the topics that currently challenge the service today; terms and conditions, policing cuts, the changing local and national policing landscapes, a professional body for policing, the use of discretion and risk management, the Olympics, current counter terrorism challenges and learning the lessons from public order and major operational incidents.  A number of breakouts will also provide for a further diverse range of issues to be discussed.

"The fact that so many decisions in respect of the future of policing have yet to be made makes this event all the more important as delegates still have a real chance to contribute, shape and influence the future direction of the Service.

"Meeting the financial challenges facing the police service is tough. The daily evidence of the effort and commitment our police officers and staff put into keeping communities safe shows that the whole police service shares a determination to remain focused on delivering the best possible policing to the public. This Conference provides us with a chance to debate, listen to contrary views and provide other stakeholders with an insight into the professional views of those in the Service.
